Adventures
As one of his 8 Chanukah gifts, I bought Aaron an adventure. [I know. I’m the best shiksa ever.]
My dude is the kind that would rather be gifted with an experience than an object, so I selected a three-hour guided hike through the mountains of Montana de Oro State Park, which sits almost in the middle of California about an hour north of Santa Barbara and right past San Luis Obispo. We decided to drive up last Sunday, and with the sun out for the first time after weeks of rain, it was absolutely gorgeous.

We ate tiny little apples right off the manzanita bush and watched grey whales far out into the ocean.

We hiked & hiked for hours through dry, rocky terrain and lush, wet streams and forests [very “Lord of the Rings”-esque I pointed out to my nerdy boy], and it was beautiful and exhausting and fun. We ended the hike with a lunch prepared by our guide, complete with two bottles of wine for us to partake in which is, of course, the main reason I was there. Aaron loved it all.

Finally, before heading home, we stopped at a few of the nearby wineries including one that was built within a little, yellow schoolhouse [related: I have found where I want to teach!].

We drank even more wine [& since I bought the adventure, Aaron got to be the driver ;)] and collected more wine bottles, wine glasses, and artwork for a future wine collection of our very own.
All in all, the day was exhausting and perfect. Aaron & I were supremely obnoxious in that we spent the day doing that nauseating gaze-y thing at one another & wondering aloud how we were lucky enough to find one another & enjoy such adventures. I loved it though. And I love him. I can’t wait for years and years and years of even more adventures.
